چکیده
This study seeks a better understanding of possible pathophysiological mechanisms associated with cognitive impairment and dementia in Parkinson's disease using structural functional MRI. We investigated resting-state connectivity important subdivisions the caudate nucleus, putamen thalamus, also how morphology these structures are impacted disorder. found cognitively unimpaired subjects (n = 33), compared to controls 26), display increased dorsal caudate, anterior mediodorsal thalamic areas across frontal lobe, as well reduced posterior cortical cerebellar regions. Compared subjects, those mild 22) demonstrated thalamus paracingulate cortex, while demonstrating cingulate 17). Extensive volumetric surface-based deflation was participants controls. Our research suggests that within basal ganglia-thalamocortical circuits implicated disease, breakdown para- regions brain respectively.

Neuroimaging correlates of cognitive impairment and dementia in Parkinson's disease.
There has been a gradual shift in the definition of Parkinson's disease, from a movement disorder to a neurodegenerative condition affecting multiple cognitive domains. Mild cognitive impairment (PD-MCI) is a frequent comorbidity in PD that is associated with progression to dementia (PDD) and debilitating consequences for patients and caregivers. At present, the pathophysiology underpinning cog...

10 APPLIED NEUROLOGY February 2006 www.appneurology.com Brain imaging markers have already emerged as important tools in the differential diagnosis of dementia. Parameters derived from brain imaging are being intensively examined as potential predictors to identify persons with only mild cognitive losses who will imminently decline and in whom the full dementia syndrome of AD will develop. As n...
متن کاملStructural Neuroimaging in Cognitive Impairment
Structural neuroimaging with CT or MRI in the assessment of people with cognitive impairment has traditionally been used to rule out potentially treatable/reversible causes of cognitive impairment. However, over the last decade, clinical neuroimaging has been used to rule in pathology, to refine the differential diagnosis by identifying subclinical infarcts, to quantify white matter changes and...

Parkinson’s disease (PD) involves neuropatholog-ical changes in the limbic system that lead to neuronal lossand volumetric reductions of several nuclei. We investigatedpossible volumetric reductions of the amygdala and hip-pocampus associated to PD. We carried out magnetic reso-nance imaging (MRI) volumetric studies in 16 patients withPD and dementia (PDD), 16 patients w...

The frequency of dementia, the clinical characteristics and the pattern of cognitive impairment were studied in 147 unselected Parkinsonian patients. Twenty-one patients (14.28%) were judged to be demented. They had a more severe and widespread cognitive deficit although they were affected particularly in those tests that already discriminated Parkinsonian patients from controls. A direct compa...
